EXPERIENCE AND PROFESSIONAL INVOLVEMENT

I have represented New York defendants on appeal and in post conviction proceedings since 1983. I received my training at the The New York City Legal Aid Society Criminal Appeals Bureau, where I worked for 12 years, for some of those years as a senior supervising attorney. The New York State Association of Criminal Defense Attorneys has recognized my work.

Besides representing individual clients, I have advocated for changes in the law that would benefit defendants, in leading and serving on committees and task forces on criminal-law issues and appellate and post-conviction practice, in serving as a director of organizations providing appellate representation to indigent defendants, and in contributing to legal publications.

I have also taught constitutional law at the City University of New York.

I received my undergraduate and law degrees from Yale. Following law school, I clerked for a federal appellate judge.
